piccies

I worked it out – I have to use image capture to download the photos as iTunes doesnt do it – very odd!

Anyway, for your viewing pleasure – some photos from the last week or so – mostly taken with “The Best Camera” iPhone app.

roasty

Its got summer hot all of a sudden

Was 34 degrees yesterday and its 36+ today – there’s a good breeze off the sea though and some clouds popping up now the afternoon is here which is chucking some much needed shade down to cool us off.

Our house faces west towards the ocean, so its easy to open the front door and the windows (we all have locking security screen doors and stuff down here to make that easy and safe) and have a lovely breeze blowing through – be better if we had the aircon working (still no progress on that – ah well, we’re using less water and electricity so its not such a bad thing) but its nice and natural.

Jay and the girls are off to see the second Twilight film this afternoon – I, however, am not.  I’m going shopping for picnic stuff for tomorrow’s B52’s and Proclaimers gig at Sandalford Winery in the Swan Valley just north east of Perth.  Need to go get a picnic blanket too.  Can’t wait.

So, to leave you in the mood for picnics and Rock Lobsters..

Has to be my fave song by them.  That and 52 girls.

Is it wrong to still have a fan-crush on Cindy Wilson?

sunsets

Its been quite a warm and hazy day today which usually bodes well for a corker of a sunset.

I sat on the front porch for a bit as the sun made its way down and lit up the sky

I popped out to get a few beers and a couple of bottles of wine just before the sun went all the way down, then headed a couple of minutes down the road to where all the big posh houses sit high on the dunes overlooking the ocean.

The sunset was lovely and mellow – there’s no wind today and it was so peaceful on the beach. A school (or is is pod?) of dolphins were swimming lazing circles in the bay and a few people were swimming in the last light. Perfect.

The best thing about really still and quiet evenings is I can hear the ocean from my bed as I fall asleep.

missed a post

I forgot to write about this in the excitement of something or other..

Went shopping for wedding suits with my best man (Jay’s ex) on Saturday up in Perth.

The whole thing done and dusted in a morning including 2 coffees and a trip to Lomovember, a Holga and Lomo exhibition arranged by the fine chaps at Pigeonhole Awesome.

We now have matching fantastic dark grey pinstripe suits and gorgeous white shirts, just need for me to get a tie to go with the bridesmaid colours and some swanky shoes and its all good 🙂

What’s that Skippy?

We had a stray kangaroo in the road today. First I saw of it was the dog going nuts at the window and the ranger pulling up outside. Followed by another one. And then the police and the wildlife officers

cops

The roo was in the road opposite my house, so I popped out to see what all the fuss was all about. Together, the throng of roo catchers advanced down the road whist the wildlife officers prepared the tranquilliser (which took aaages, mixing this and that into a never ending set of vials).

Eventually, they set off down the street to shoot the critter full of slumber inducing drugs and hopefully catch and remove it.

After a while, the deed was done and the guy with the gun came back to the car

leaving the rest of them to try to corner a drug addled and frankly probably pissed off kangaroo.

Now, bear in mind that roos can jump 6-8 feet with no problem and can run 30/40mph easily. So there began a comical stand off between the rangers/police and a few residents, including myself by this point as the roo dashed this way and that, quite unaware that it should be counting sheep by this point.

They fetched the big net ready to capture it, but it bolted up towards where I was standing – I managed to stop it escaping and it stopped for a breather

it soon bolted away again and despite the best efforts of the team, it leapt clean over the net, got upto full speed and shot past me doing huge random bounces.

And off the team scrambled in hot pursuit

Bit of fun for the day..

new toys

Went up to Perth on Saturday to the wonderful pigeonhole and the crumpler store to check out some funky ideas for Christmas presents and caved in horribly at the sight of lo-fi camera goodness.

I got a Diana Mini – a teeny plastic 35mm 1/2 frame toy camera – takes Holga-esque shots but in an easier to get processed film format. We’ll see how it fares against the mighty Holga

Jay fell for the Lomo Supersampler a dinky little camera that takes 4 shots in quick sucession – very cool and very different.

fil-ums

Just got a call from the lovely people at Churchill Colour Labs where I get my films developed to tell me that our latest batch are all done.

As luck would have it, I’m in Perth and just around the corner from them today, so I’ll pop over and pick them up.

So, faithful followers, whoever you all are, be prepared for some photos over the next week or so.

I shall drip feed them if I can bear it! Its gorgeously sunny today and I have the Holga again – might be dropping off another film at the same time. I can’t believe I took the one out of my bag from yesterday now! gah!

walking

you know, one foot in front of the other.

when you have time, its such a refreshing thing to do. Walked about 6km yesterday – from Perth station to Oracle and back again, via Kings Park.

It took 30 mins or so in each direction and as I was carrying a laptop and stuff, I have a slightly clunky back this morning, but it was so nice to get so much fresh air.

I had to get the bus this morning (which was a hideous experience) but I’ll be walking home tonight.

Back to Perth tomorrow for some more walking..

sunday sunday, so good to me..

Ok, its a day earlier than the Mama’s and the Papa’s had it.

Its been a very slumpy day today – I did the weeding and feeding and dressing the bits of the lawn with wetting agent and thats about all I’ve really done so far.

I should get to speak to the kids on Skype in a bit and then probably take my step-daughters to the park once its cooled off a bit. No photos yet, I might go out between the park and dinner time, but as its so warm, I might just buy some cold beers and sit outside with the wafting scent of sandalwood and citronella..

Anwyay, hope all your weekends are going similarly swimmingly 🙂

More later. Possibly.

fixed it, I did

Fixed the irrigation this afternoon.

It just required the fuses to be replaced and the new cable runs that I did the other day to be rejoined with proper cable connecting clips. I also re-wound the tape round a few of the older (but as far as I know, non functioning) cable joins, just to be sure.

Tested the connections with a multimeter to ensure I hadn’t stuffed up and joined the common to the power circuit by mistake (I hadn’t) and then did some test runs.

And blow me down if it doesn’t all work. I replaced a few old and crap sprinklers with new pop-ups and thats it, job done.

Tomorrow, the adventures of the world’s most boring man continues with weed and feed and preparing the ground for grass seed. Go me.

Think I’ll go out and take some photos tomorrow, its been a while.
