Sundays on the bike

Winter in Perth has been a bit two faced this year.  If it’s not lovely sunny and very unwinter like, it’s been hammering it down with rain and utterly miserable! Anyways – after an whole weekend of torrential rain and damp overcast skies, the sun poked through around lunchtime on Sunday and the afternoon was perfect for a ride and scrub in that new back tyre before I took it out off road Read More

Day trip to Boyagin Rock

As you may remember, I’ve got this foolhardy romantic notion of doing crazy motorcycle adventures.

Well, to do this, I need practice (and fitness – it’s very tiring riding motorbikes off-road) and also to get my bike setup.  So what better way to find out how unfit both myself and my bike are for this than to go on a marathon day ride out into the big empty yonder.

I’d spent a little while planning this out, pouring over Google Earth trying to piece together dirt roads and tracks to get to this place.  I’d made a track and exported to my phone’s GPS app (OsmAnd+ on Android). The bike was ready, I was ready.

It 6am, Sunday morning, my alarm went and it was time to go.

Firing up the mighty DR650, Boyagin Rock and Brookton here we come. Read More

winter shenanigans

Hello dear readers (of which there are now a great many, apparently – WordPress tells me that I have over 1200 followers and subscribers – nice!) I hope you’re all well and happy in your lives in whatever corner of the globe you call home.

So, we’re officially past the winter solstice now (and were 2 posts ago, but I just forgot) and the days are getting longer for us southern hemisphere dwellers.   As I mentioned before, the crappy winter weather tends to hit Perth in July and August, so we have a little ways to go before we see signs of spring.

And another thing…

MORE PHOTOS!

I know.  It’s a bit of a cheek really, as I already had all these shots ready to go last week, but held them back a I didn’t want that last post to be endlessly massive.

But I care not one jot, you all love me anyway, right? Read More

Now, where were we..?

Hello, dear readers!  1000 apologies for the slight hiatus but I’ve been sick.  Stupid winter flu bugs have kept me from doing a lot for the last month.

I even missed a day of work and as I only get paid for what I work (no sick leave for us company directors) that’s a pretty big deal.  For me to sacrifice that amount of money to the flu god, it was pretty bad.  That’s kind a shit buys a lot of wine.

Anyways, its not all been doom and gloom, I have managed to ride my bike a lot, even though it’s suddenly turned very cold.

0.7C at 6:45am kinda cold.  Yes, I know northern hemisphere dwellers would say ‘thats not cold, if you want cold, try riding in the snow yer great southern shandy drinking poof’

Yeah, no.  I’ve done that, it’s not fun.  Plus it doesn’t snow here.

A ride around the beaches

Best thing about living by the sea – being able to ride around the beaches.

It never gets old.  Probably because I grew up an hour or so’s drive away from the coast I hardly ever saw it, except for holidays and the occasional sunny summer Sunday.

So off I went out with the camera again – and here’s some pictures 🙂

tiny update

Its been a crap couple of weeks for getting out and about and taking photos cos I’ve been sick.

Yes, the dreaded man-flu.

You know it’s bad when a 4 day weekend with gorgeous 30C sunny days could not even tempt me outside, and then the following week I had to have a day off work.   When you’re paid by the day and don’t get sick leave, this is a very big deal.

Riding around

I decided to take the bike out on a gratuitous run around yesterday.  It’s been ages since I’ve just walked or driven about with the camera on my own for the sake of it.  In fact, the last time might have been when I went to Brisbane with work.  Crap, huh?

So this post is kinda dedicated to a fellow blogger – a veritable Arkansas Traveller – Jeffrey, who takes pictures and blogs about rural Arkansas as he cycles about.  I totally love that – it’s just about getting out there.  Go find him here

It was a really hot day – into the 30’s before lunch, but there was a storm front coming down from the north, bringing cloud and interesting skies.

So around 5pm I jumped on the bike, put the trusty little LX5 in my pocket and headed out to take some shots from the coast.  Areas I have plenty of pictures of already – mostly way better ones than I could hope to get with just the pocket camera, but I don’t care – it was just nice to get out and get some air.  Plus I got to ride the bike, which still makes me feel like a spitfire pilot. busy weekends

Its not been a very good few months for weekends – there’s been so much to do I feel like I’m going back to work on Mondays for a rest!  What with all the clearing up of the storm damage, fixing my roof and getting the back garden ready for the new fence. Then the whole family was sick and blah blah, I felt like I’d not had a proper break in ages!

More travels

And before I was even over my travel fatigue from going to England, I had to go back to Brisbane.  Ok, I do get to fly business class, but it’s only a small consolation on a 4:30 hour flight – there’s still the stuck in the seat feeling that no matter what class of travel you can afford (perhaps a first class suite cabin on Singapore or Emirates Airlines would be an exception).

Anyway, Brisbane it was for another week. Read More
