Walking before you run

So, regular readers (what I have left, given the infrequency of my posts!) will remember that since March I’ve been on a bit of a health kick.

Its been going really well – consistency, not overdoing it or expecting some magical body transformation and falling in a heap and finding solitude in 13 tubs of Ben and Jerrys ice cream when I dont get a six pack after the 3rd day is the trick.

Just eat a bit less and move a bit more.  Repeat.

That’s it.  I know, right, whodathunkit?

Anyways – I kinda maxed out with the waking – was getting to the point where I could walk a 1/2 marathon at max speed and not get into heart rate zone 4 (the productive zone).  So I needed to up the ante.

I’ve always wanted to run but never found a way to do it without getting shin splints.

Summer in England 2017 – part 4 – walking Plaxtol to One Tree Hill

This is a simple post, with lots of pretty pictures 🙂

I got up early and went for an ambitious walk, through the footpaths and laneways of the places I know like the back of my hand from when I grew up.

Views for days, beautiful old buildings and the paths go on and on for as long as you can.

I was a beautiful day too.  Was so perfect.  So much so that I even ran back from where I ended up – 6km.   Read More

Routine and results

After a while, the new plan becomes routine.

I’m getting used to exercise and diet.  I actually look forward to my time after work and at weekends to push myself a bit further, a bit faster.   I feel fitter, faster, have more energy

I’ve been watching my diet, walking, running, biking, limping, for 9 weeks now.  And it works.  Its pretty simple really.

Eat less and healthier, burn off calories and turn fat into muscle.

Exercising free time

Perhaps it should be exorcising.  It’s certainly banishing some demons, thats for sure.

So, coming back to my post about free time, it’s been a few months since I started to change the way I use my time by placing restrictions on my computer, device and internet time and things are going really well.

I’m using my time far more effectively, more responsibly and am achieving a lot more for myself and my family.  Read More

walking

you know, one foot in front of the other.

when you have time, its such a refreshing thing to do. Walked about 6km yesterday – from Perth station to Oracle and back again, via Kings Park.

It took 30 mins or so in each direction and as I was carrying a laptop and stuff, I have a slightly clunky back this morning, but it was so nice to get so much fresh air.

I had to get the bus this morning (which was a hideous experience) but I’ll be walking home tonight.

Back to Perth tomorrow for some more walking..
