Hello X100T

As you may remember, my X100 was totalled when I was hit by a rogue wave at Point Peron a few months ago.

I had it checked out by an authorised camera repairer, but no surprises, it was properly dead.

But I’m insured, so thanks to RAC, it only took a short while before I had a cheque in my hands and I could look for a new camera (actually, the cheque came later than my clicking ‘buy now, but that spoils the narrative)

Fuji X100

I think it was about 18 months ago that I bought my wife a new camera.  She’d been complaining that she never used the DSLR as it was too big and wanted a super cool point and shoot that still felt like a ‘real’ camera.

So I bought her a Fuji X100.

The coolest retro digital camera ever.

Jay loved it and took some awesome photos with it, but she really doesn’t take many photos anymore, preferring to draw instead.

So I am now free to borrow it.  Huzzar!

Boxing Day goodness

So, all you northern hemisphere dwellers with your snow and your wrap up warm Christmas cheer where mulled wine makes perfect sense don’t know how good you have it!

As I said before, it doesn’t feel like Christmas down here in Perth – it’s almost 40C today with clear skies (and a strong sea breeze, thank god) – everyone’s heading to the beach or barbecuing on the many foreshore picnic areas.  How is that Christmas?  LOL!

It is, however, perfect weather to have a little ride about and I think I might have to make this a Boxing Day tradition. Read More

Back to England – part 5

It was scheduled to rain for the next couple of days, but it wasn’t supposed to hit until much later in the day, so my sister and I took the chance to head down to the beach.  It’s an hour’s drive to Camber Sands but the traffic wasn’t too bad and the sun was shining.  We decided to leave early and be packed up by lunch ahead of the rain and the rush (this place gets so busy once the sun is out)

We arrived just after 9 and the place was almost deserted.  Awesome.  Buckets and spades purchased, we walked off up the beach and set up our untidy little camp.  As soon as we put the bags down, the kids were off.

Photos and Stuff

Yup, it’s one of those random ‘here’s a load of photos’ posts.

Well, I have time off work what do you expect??!!

We’ve had a pretty chilled out week so far, not trying to catch up with friends too much and mostly catching up on family downtime.  We’ve bummed around the house, scoffed picnic food 3 days on the trot (well, why wouldn’t you? – we are talking about brie on crackers with prosciutto and a side helping of tearing bread and olive oil, capsicum fetta and sun dried tomatoes and to top it all – dolmades)

iPhone 4s

I took delivery of a new iPhone 4s the other week as I was out of contract and had the opportunity to upgrade for next to nothing. Yes, I’m a sad case and I know the arguments, Samsung, Android, blah blah.

But I don’t care – I’ve had my 3Gs for 2 years and save for a couple of minor IOS updates that were not as stable as they might have been, its been a revelation. You can do so much on it – games, photos, video, internet, well, just about everything.

But that’s old news

noodling

I took the little LX5 out in Perth today.  Just pointing it at people, things, places – it’s awesome.  It’s fast, small, discrete, lightweight – the perfect little camera for every day.

Breakfast

Once in a while (ok, often) it’s nice to go out for a proper breakfast.  It’s gorgeously sunny today and we had a few errands to run that were tantalisingly close to the foreshore and it’s array of cafes 🙂

We started out just going for coffee, but it was brunch time and one thing led to another..

Weekend

So as you all know by now, it was my birthday and I got an awesome camera.

Well, as tradition has it, I’ve been taking photos left right and centre – wife, children, pets, outside, everything.  Nothing is safe.  I’d do the same with the big cameras too, but it’s more fun with the little sneaky silent one – muhahah!

Its a long weekend for Foundation Day here in Western Australia – yes, 1829 the Swan River colony was founded.

Birthday boy

It was my birthday last week

I’m a whole 40 years old now. I don’t really feel it. Or, according to my colleagues at work, really look it either (although I have a wokey eye today thanks to a rogue cat hair).  I had to work, which was a bit of a downer, but I did get to celebrate a little bit after work for a cheeky drink and then at home later for some presents.
