In transit

Did you see what I did there… 😉

Regular readers may recall that I travel a fair bit, mostly back to the UK from Australia.  I’m always running from place to place trying to maximise my time off, my funds and my time with my kids.  It was always the same with business travel too – squeezing the schedule as much as possible

Breakfast

Once in a while (ok, often) it’s nice to go out for a proper breakfast.  It’s gorgeously sunny today and we had a few errands to run that were tantalisingly close to the foreshore and it’s array of cafes 🙂

We started out just going for coffee, but it was brunch time and one thing led to another..

Weekend

So as you all know by now, it was my birthday and I got an awesome camera.

Well, as tradition has it, I’ve been taking photos left right and centre – wife, children, pets, outside, everything.  Nothing is safe.  I’d do the same with the big cameras too, but it’s more fun with the little sneaky silent one – muhahah!

Its a long weekend for Foundation Day here in Western Australia – yes, 1829 the Swan River colony was founded.

Birthday boy

It was my birthday last week

I’m a whole 40 years old now. I don’t really feel it. Or, according to my colleagues at work, really look it either (although I have a wokey eye today thanks to a rogue cat hair).  I had to work, which was a bit of a downer, but I did get to celebrate a little bit after work for a cheeky drink and then at home later for some presents.

more film

I got some more films back and I love them.  The negatives are gorgeous but scans themselves weren’t brilliant.  A little nip and a tuck and some removal of dust and fluff from the jpegs and I have a load of shots I’m really happy with.

I took a bunch with the Holga again – its one of those cameras that when you get the films back, you kick yourself for having left it so long to use it.  I promised myself I’d take a few dozen shots a week, but as yet, I’ve not done that.

a week without an update!

oops, thats not good!

It’s been a busy week at work, my poor little brain has been working overtime to finish the things that I need to do for the project I’m working on.  Too much work and no play makes Charlie a dull boy.

Anyway, its been a good few weeks – we finally ripped up the skanky old carpets from the formal lounge, family room and bedrooms and replaced them with a solid Mari wood floor.  It’s beautiful and has totally transformed the look of those rooms.

Polaroid

So, after my last post, I thought I’d show you the difference between the silver shade Impossible Project film and the regular (but now out of date) original Polaroid film.

Review: Film

A while ago I bought a mint condition Polaroid Sum LMS and a boat load of 600 film for my wife for her birthday.  I know, nice, aren’t I?

Anyway, I also got her some of the Impossible Project‘s ‘Silver Shade’ film – a new experimental Polaroid style film – it takes whimsical images in a kind of pale sepia black and white style, which of course, knowing her, would be awesome.

Shack

In the 1920’s, there was a small seaside town with ramshackle fishing shacks, beautiful wooden clapper-board holiday homes and the start of a tourist industry.

Now, the town is a city, having grown exponentially from the boom years of the 1950’s to today, where it now has over 100,000 people

Some of the old houses are still there, hidden amongst the new, some restored, some dilapidated, some for sale, ready for demolition.

down down

I hit one of my lard milestones this morning.

10kg lost so far (thats 22lbs for my American friends)

It doesn’t really feel like much has gone, but that’s quite a lot of pork pies and chocolate bars that are no longer around my hips.  Well, not hips, middle and chin probably.

So, what is 10kg?
