Timing is everything.
Usually, work and my commute dictate my timetable and I don’t get an opportunity to get to the beach with the camera, but weekends are a different story.
And as luck would have it today, timing lined up perfectly and I got down to the beach with the versatile little X100T to take some abstract sunset pictures. Read More

You know winter is coming to Perth when the rains arrive.
We have a remarkably livable climate here.
For most of the year it’s pretty much awesome – can be a bit too hot in the summer, and the lack of insulation and central heating can make winter a bit chilly, but for the most part – it’s peachy.
But did you know we get more rain in Perth than in London?
Most people in Perth wouldn’t know it either, because for 4 or 5 months, it hardly rains. But it catches up. Oh boy does it. And Winter is storm season. Read More

I went out for a ride on the bike in the afternoon sunshine last weekend. Not too hot, not too cold – perfect.
I’ve taken snapshots, proper pics, family pics and on-the-way-home-iphone photos of every inch of the local landscape (or so it would seem) – so these are just repeats.
But its so pretty, so my care factor is low 😉 Read More

Yes, it is, as yelled by Noddy Holder in that old faithful seasonal refrain, ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’
I hope you had a brilliant Christmas – I certainly have!
But first, a small apology Read More

So, all you northern hemisphere dwellers with your snow and your wrap up warm Christmas cheer where mulled wine makes perfect sense don’t know how good you have it!
As I said before, it doesn’t feel like Christmas down here in Perth – it’s almost 40C today with clear skies (and a strong sea breeze, thank god) – everyone’s heading to the beach or barbecuing on the many foreshore picnic areas. How is that Christmas? LOL!
It is, however, perfect weather to have a little ride about and I think I might have to make this a Boxing Day tradition. Read More

Its not been a very good few months for weekends – there’s been so much to do I feel like I’m going back to work on Mondays for a rest! What with all the clearing up of the storm damage, fixing my roof and getting the back garden ready for the new fence. Then the whole family was sick and blah blah, I felt like I’d not had a proper break in ages!

We’ve had a few storms here over the last few weeks. Big arsed hairy Indian Ocean winter storms.
These are usually ok – the wind howls, the rain falls and then its gone. Except this time we had 2 of them back to back, the first with a sudden howling gale that knocked down fences and trees and damaged the roof and the second, a few days later, bringing 12 hours of violent wind and torrential rain. This, as you can imagine did not go well with the already damaged roof, and water came pouring in through one ceiling over of the windows in the back of the house. Bah!

It’s been too long since I went for a meander with the camera. I wanted to take some kite surf shots today – it was supposed to be windy with storm, but as it turned out, it was only windy for a few hours and then nothing.
Still as a still thing playing sleeping lions.
And then it got really overcast too.
I really thought I’d blown it and wasn’t going to get to go out at all.
Well, the rain and storms held off a few km out to sea and the sun kept finding a way through. In fact, the dark/light combination was kind of interesting.

Yes, it’s cold, I might even have to put some jeans on.
All of you in the Northern Hemisphere, up to your necks in white global warming, are probably thinking:
“Ha, yeah right, you’re in Perth, I’ve watched some cricket (ok, it’s pretty unlikely that any Americans would say the last bit as cricket is as foreign to them as baseball is to the rest of the world) – it looks pretty warm down there”
Ok, I’m being a wag, I’ve just had the old crappy useless evaporative air conditioning unit replaced with a new big monster one and it’s a bit efficient. Perhaps a bit too efficient for its own good. Jay is sitting at the desk in a one woman huddle, pretending it’s all fine. Being a hot person (I know, you all want me, right?) like I am, this chill suits me just fine!
We all took the doggy for a little walk along the beach (yup, the one that, I have to remind all of you repeatedly about) at the end of the road. I think the dog actually took the girls for a walk, rather than the other way around
Anyway, with all these digs and jibes at your chilly snowy weather, what I’m really doing is setting you up for some photos to give you all some Christmas cheer, so here for your viewing pleasure, are the dreary surrounds of suburban Waikiki.
And Piper, as special as ever.
I know, its a hard life.
Ok, for balance, there are some downsides – being 40C hot in a suit is no fun and it might rain tomorrow for a bit.
There, happy now, snow people? :p

Sometimes I can go for weeks, living my life, oblivious to the fact that I live only a stones throw from the Indian Ocean and the most beautiful beaches.
Nuts isn’t it.
Other times, if there is no breeze and the world is quiet, I can hear the waves crashing rhythmically onto the beach as I drift off to sleep.
Today, I popped out to get some wine for dinner and drove the long way back (I say long way, its like a 1 minute detour) via the beach as the sky was looking interesting and I hadn’t taken any photos for ages. I only had my iPhone, but thats ok, it was never about the actual photograph, more about just being there for a few minutes.
It was beautiful – warm, gentle breeze and the crashing of waves on the beach. Perfect.
Crappy video too, complete with wave sounds 🙂
