Ride out to Mandurah

I had a few hours to kill, so I went on a ride on the Ninja 250R and my camera to Mandurah.

Mandurah is only half hour away from where I live.  It’s a relatively modern town (now a city – but that’s kinda relative – it’s not on the same scale as European cities) which has grown from nothing more than a small fishing village to a big town in just 30 years.  It’s on the coast and benefits from a natural estuary of the Murray River which is bigger than Sydney harbour.  Mandurah has made use of the estuary to build a nice shiny marina and boardwalk complex with restaurants and bars and also a very flashy housing development with multi million dollar homes with a series of canals for the residents to keep their boats.    Read More

More from Kwinana and Rockingham

The other day I had to go out to choose a new front door from a supplier that has a warehouse in a pretty rough looking industrial zone. The place was amazing and I got what I was looking for pretty quickly, which left me a little bit of time to take a couple of pictures and take the long way home Read More

Just riding around the beaches

The other afternoon I went for another little ride out, just for the hell of it.

It’s amazing how much more you see if you’re on a bike.  It’s way easier to just stop, park up and take a photo than it is from a car too.  I stopped in at a couple of places I haven’t been before, just because I could.

To be honest, the coast looks very similar around here no matter where you go – all the beaches are sandy with nice turquoise ocean.  I know, its torture having such a beautiful coastline!  :-p Read More

what a difference a day makes

Its been blowing a gale since I did the last blog post – last night was pretty uncomfortable with the house making all kinds of creaking noises in the storm force winds.

I woke up early as a particularly nasty squall came in and I thought we were going to lose the windows! Read More

Peaches

This isn’t really about peaches, but more about a drive in to the country, which is kinda reminded me of a line from a song by rock band Presidents of the USA called ‘Peaches’

‘A move into the country, gonna eat a lot of peaches…’

Well, I didn’t even see a single peach, but I did take a load of photos of rural Australia, which is only a stone’s throw from suburbia where I live. Read More

busy weekends

Its not been a very good few months for weekends – there’s been so much to do I feel like I’m going back to work on Mondays for a rest!  What with all the clearing up of the storm damage, fixing my roof and getting the back garden ready for the new fence. Then the whole family was sick and blah blah, I felt like I’d not had a proper break in ages!

Holidays – part 6

It was the last day and everyone was tired and wanted a lie-in.  I, of course, woke up at 5am to the dawn light. Meh – no lie-in for me. Ah well.

I decided to go out with the tripod and take some more ‘professional’ (read – taking a long time messing about with different settings that would not be possible with a family in tow) photos of Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks. Read More

Holidays – day 5

The first thing we did in Denmark was to go to a nearby Alpaca farm.  The kids had been couped up and needed to run around and to pet fluffy animals.

Pentland Alpaca Farm was about 15 minutes from where we were staying and looked quite promising from the website.  I’d had a few recommendations from other people too, so it was pretty much the first thing we had to do.

We were the first people there and had to wait a little bit before it opened.  It was worth getting there early though, we had the place to ourselves for an hour before more families started rocking up Read More

Holidays – day 4

So, where were we? Ah yes, wine tasting and long days out.

Well, the next day we had to drive to Denmark which is a pretty long way through mostly forest and on windy little roads.  Fun.  Especially with kids.

Don’t get me wrong, its a beautiful forest, but it does go on.  And on.  And on.

We kept on trucking for a few hours until forest started opening up into farms and we reached Pemberton, a logging town, where we joined my parents for lunch

Holidays – day 3

It’s funny – it only takes a week or two and suddenly it’s hard to remember what order things happened in!

Day 3 we got up early and went to see the Ngilgi Cave which was just round the corner from where we were staying. Read More
