Red Wine Wednesday – Campo Viejo Rioja 2006

Hello wine lovers, it’s that time again!

I am currently in frosty England so I thought I’d find a European wine to review – I did think about doing an English wine, but in the limited time I had available to shop, I failed to find any.  So – what to choose – a classic Bordeaux, a cheeky Chianti?  Nope – I went straight for the Rioja.

These are damn expensive in Australia, but much more reasonable in the UK so as you can imagine, I haven’t gone overboard with the Rioja’s of late and I’ve kinda missed them.  In fact, I was struggling to remember what they tasted like!  Eeek!

Seems like too good excuse to waste then, doesn’t it? Read More

Trip to the UK – Part 1

And so the time has flown since last summer and it’s time for another trip to England.

No flight photos this time as a) I had a middle centre seat out from Perth and then b) it was dark all the way into London.

I went via Singapore which was cool – I like Changi airport, it’s big and clean and has lots of places to sit down and chill.  This time it was full of Japanese schoolgirls, which was really bizarre – it was just like a cliché – all with their knee high socks and giggling – very odd.  I would have taken a photo, but I didn’t want to seem like a pervert stalker, so you’ll just have google and imagine it all for yourselves. Brisbane – Part 3

Another day hard at work deserves a little adventure when it’s all done, so I made a beeline for door and went for a long walk.

This time, I turned left out of the office and over the Kurilpa pedestrian footbridge over the Brisbane River and down onto the Southbank.

This might have been a tiny mistake, as I was in my suit and carrying my heavy laptop bag and it was quite warm and humid. Ok, very humid, well, for someone used dry heat.

The things I do to get some photos for you hungry people.  This is quite a long post, so do bear with me! Read More

Brisbane – Part 2

Well well – thanks to being featured on WordPress ‘freshly pressed’, I’ve had about a billion views, comments, likes and subscriptions on this blog compared to the usual regular trickle.   So many new faces – thank you all for coming 🙂

I suppose you’re all expecting frequent new and exciting content aren’t you?  Hope I don’t disappoint!

Anyhoo, after a busy day working, I had an hour so before sunset (which, here in Queensland, is really quite early – 6:45pm – even in mid summer) – so I grabbed the camera and went for a walk

Adventures with work

I posted about this kind of thing before.

Sometimes I get to travel for work and whilst it mostly sucks, it does mean I get to see places for free.  I don’t get very long to myself to explore and often I’m not really in the mood to go wandering around on my own, but I do get a flavour of lots of interesting places.

So, this time, my work has sent me to Brisbane, capital city of the state of Queensland. Read More

loading film

I’ve had a bit of a time off shooting film of late.

Sure, I’ve taken the odd shot and used the Polaroid a little, but nothing major for months.  And I really miss it.

Now my D300 is in the shop for repairs and I wont have it back for a while, I’ve got the time and inclination to shot a load of medium format again.

Red Wine Wednesday – Rymill MC2 blend 2006

Ok, its not Wednesday, but I was kinda busy yesterday and plus it was stinking hot, which isn’t ideal for red wine consumption.

So, it’s Australia Day and its been a massively hot day.  I’ve worked hard in the garden, had a swim in the ocean and I’m unwinding by watching the end of the Nadal v Federer match at the Australian Open at Melbourne and have cracked open a very interesting wine

Rymill Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Cabernet Franc blend from 2006.

Stormville

So, a few hours after having chilled out and watched the sun go down on the beach (in the last post) we got hit by the mother of all storms.

This pic was taken by a local photographer, Grahame Kelaher, about 10km from us to the south, so those lightning strikes were the ones over our head!

We got woken up at 2am by lightning like I’ve never seen before – a strike every second or two and the noise, amplified by the flat surface of the ocean, was unbelievable.

At the beach

Its summer in Perth.  Well, not just here, the whole of the southern hemisphere too, but I only live here – the other places can blog about their own summers.

Anyway, summer.

Its getting pretty warm too, as you’d expect – mid to high 30’s already.  Now last year I had time to go for walks on the beach in the mornings and was working from home a lot and could enjoy it

This year I have a new (and, sorry old company) much more interesting job, but I have to work in the city so don’t get to enjoy the summer as much during the week. I have to endure it during the day and it’s dark when I get home.

More $ but there are always sacrifices.

Well today as I was coming home, I spotted the clouds were just right for a good sunset.

Red Wine Wednesday – Howling Wolves Cab Sav

Yes, wine lovers – its Wednesday and you know what that means?

I’ve already had at least 3 bottles since the last RWW and have only managed to blog one of them!

You say that like its a bad thing?

*hic*

So, today’s red is a fine Cab Sav – locally (to Perth anyway) made in the Margaret River wine region just a couple of hours drive from where I live.  Only a couple of hours?

Thats commuting distance to Perth, right?
