Red Wine Wednesday – Driftwood 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon

Well you almost didn’t get a review of this wine – I started drinking it yesterday, fully expecting to do a red wine Wednesday, but got side tracked taking to a friend about his permaculture hobby (hey Lindsay!) and forgot and I’m a day late down to the last 1/2 glass already before I’ve even written a word – oops!

Ah well, you’re all used to me being a bit flexible with a) the wine being red and b) it being Wednesdays.

So – for your viewing pleasure, wine fans, I give you Driftwood Cabernet Sauvignon 2009. Read More

Red Wine Wednesday – Tatty Road Shiraz 2012

So, wine lovers, it’s Wednesday already and have I got an interesting wine for you this week!

It’s a long story, bear with me!

My bank has a points based loyalty thing with my credit card that accumulates a point for every $ spent on MasterCard and 2 points for every $ on American Express.  It’s the same account for both cards, so it doesn’t matter which one I use – anyway – normally these reward schemes are pretty crap, but not this one.

I get loads of free stuff for my points – and they do wine!!

Red Wine Wednesday – Storm Bird

So, wine lovers, you made it to hump day – well done you!

It’s been a crazy few weeks here, work is bouncing along in the shadow of a load of very public statements about cost cutting and efficiency, which is always an interesting time.  However, I’m still here and in order to restore some balance to the force, a healthy application of red wine is required.

For your tasting pleasure this week, we have the Storm Bird Shiraz Cab Merlot 2006

Red Wine Wednesday – Killibinbin Shiraz 2007

Yes, wine lovers, its that time again!

I almost didn’t remember, but I was home early (well, thats relative – before it got dark, which is a bit of a rare event at the moment!) and the kids were round at their father’s house and I had a moment of mental clarity!

It’s been a relatively dry 10 days since I got back -so I decided to open the last of the Killibinbin wines I got from the good food and wine show in Perth over a year ago.   I don’t have any wine or beer in the house now (save for the lay down expensive dont drink for at least 5 years wines), so I think this weekend will be spent online looking to remedy that!

Anyway – this week we have *drum roll*

Red Wine Wednesday – Old Kent River 2005 Shiraz

Its Wednesday!!  And guess what?  Red Wine Time! Actually, that’s a teensy fib – its really Thursday, I just forgot to post this yesterday.  Luckily for me, I’m in Australia and 3/4 of the globe is behind me, day-wise, so there might be somewhere left that’s still Wednesday!

It’s not good really – first I do a Red White Wine Wednesday and then I spring a Red Wine Wednesday Thursday on you all!  Some consistent brand image that is!!   It’ll probably degenerate into a daily slurred Some Alcohol Day post before too long and you’ll be wondering what’s gone wrong in my life!!

So, what does this wonderful day have in store, wine wise?

Red/White Wine Wednesday – Houghton White Classic

Greetings!!  Its Red Wine Wednesday with a twist!  A little awesome added alliteration for your consideration – yes, its a White Wine Wednesday!

I’ve been kinda busy – too busy for wine really – I know, that’s not really an excuse, but there you have it.  I’ve been clearing the garden of the storm damaged trees and fences every weekend for seemingly ages – its all done now, but that’s beer work, not red wine appreciation time.

Anyway, enough waffling – I have a chilled white in a glass waiting for appreciation.

Red Wine Wednesday – Killibinbin Scaredy Cat 2007

Greetings one and all!  I trust you’re all having lots of fun out there in your corners of the world.

So, its Wednesday – it’s red wine time!  I’ve had to resort to one of the wines I’ve drunk ‘off wednesday’ as it were because I’m sick again and theres nothing worse than alcohol when you’re ill.

So, without further ado, this week’s wine is *drum roll*

Red Wine Wednesday – Happs 2009 PF Red

Happy Wednesday, mid weekers!  Yes, its hump day, which, now I’m not full of crappy flu, is Red Wine Wednesday!

As you might have gathered by now, I went to the Margaret River wine region on holiday, which provided an excellent opportunity to taste some outstanding wines.

Margaret River is really famous for its Cabernet Sauvignon Reds as it has a climate ‘almost identical to Bordeaux in a very good year’, in fact, some say that Margaret River Cab Savs are the best you can get in Australia.  Some vineyards also produce some really top notch Shiraz (although these are much softer and less peppery than the Shirazes of the Barrossa) and some very decent Pinot Noirs and Tempranilo (Rioja style) too.

With that heady mix in mind, this week – I’d like to introduce you to Happs 2009 PF Red Read More

Red Wine Wednesday – Campo Viejo Rioja 2006

Hello wine lovers, it’s that time again!

I am currently in frosty England so I thought I’d find a European wine to review – I did think about doing an English wine, but in the limited time I had available to shop, I failed to find any.  So – what to choose – a classic Bordeaux, a cheeky Chianti?  Nope – I went straight for the Rioja.

These are damn expensive in Australia, but much more reasonable in the UK so as you can imagine, I haven’t gone overboard with the Rioja’s of late and I’ve kinda missed them.  In fact, I was struggling to remember what they tasted like!  Eeek!

Seems like too good excuse to waste then, doesn’t it? Read More

Red Wine Wednesday – Rymill MC2 blend 2006

Ok, its not Wednesday, but I was kinda busy yesterday and plus it was stinking hot, which isn’t ideal for red wine consumption.

So, it’s Australia Day and its been a massively hot day.  I’ve worked hard in the garden, had a swim in the ocean and I’m unwinding by watching the end of the Nadal v Federer match at the Australian Open at Melbourne and have cracked open a very interesting wine

Rymill Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Cabernet Franc blend from 2006.
