Red Wine Wednesday – Happs 2009 PF Red
Posted on April 25, 2012
Happy Wednesday, mid weekers! Yes, its hump day, which, now I’m not full of crappy flu, is Red Wine Wednesday!
As you might have gathered by now, I went to the Margaret River wine region on holiday, which provided an excellent opportunity to taste some outstanding wines.
Margaret River is really famous for its Cabernet Sauvignon Reds as it has a climate ‘almost identical to Bordeaux in a very good year’, in fact, some say that Margaret River Cab Savs are the best you can get in Australia. Some vineyards also produce some really top notch Shiraz (although these are much softer and less peppery than the Shirazes of the Barrossa) and some very decent Pinot Noirs and Tempranilo (Rioja style) too.
With that heady mix in mind, this week – I’d like to introduce you to Happs 2009 PF Red Read More
Holidays – day 3
Posted on April 25, 2012
It’s funny – it only takes a week or two and suddenly it’s hard to remember what order things happened in!
Day 3 we got up early and went to see the Ngilgi Cave which was just round the corner from where we were staying.

Due to various dietary needs and restrictions, we’d had to plan ahead a little with eating out. We’d booked ourselves into Hay Shed Hill winery for breakfast and for a late lunch in Settlers Tavern in Margaret River and then planned out a sort of route between feeds to take in the must see sights.

Firstly, many apologies for the slight absence of posts – I have been a number of things
1. sick
2. working like a bastard
3. on holiday
All of the above have pretty much prevented any kind of activity, photography, red wine consumption and time and/or access to a computer.
Anyway, you now have my undivided attention for a while 🙂

Jay and I try to get out for lunch at least once a month when the kids are with their father. Not that we don’t take them for lunch too, but we try to take the ‘us’ time when we have the opportunity.
Busy lives, work and travel means it would be all to easy to not get a minute to ourselves.
More travels

And before I was even over my travel fatigue from going to England, I had to go back to Brisbane. Ok, I do get to fly business class, but it’s only a small consolation on a 4:30 hour flight – there’s still the stuck in the seat feeling that no matter what class of travel you can afford (perhaps a first class suite cabin on Singapore or Emirates Airlines would be an exception).
Anyway, Brisbane it was for another week. Read More

And then it was the very last day – we packed up and I drove them back to their house. They were very pleased to see their mum of course – no matter how much fun we’re having, they always like to be back home.
As luck would have it, Ella had a ballet lesson that afternoon, which meant I could (finally) watch her do her dancing. Sadly, due to paedo paranoia, I was only allowed to watch and not take photos of her during the lesson. Ah well.

Time, as ever, is the mortal enemy and pretty soon we were down to the last full day together. It was very overcast and threatening to rain bit we decided on an outside adventure anyway.
There’s a lovely old stately home only 15 minutes drive from my parents house that I last went to probably when I was Ella’s age. No, really, it was that long ago.
Penshurst Place has gardens and an adventure playground open all year (but the house is only open in the summer) which sounded perfect – combine that with a toy museum and some lunch, we thought that would be a good day out. Read More

It was still freezing cold, but we refused to be couped up indoors – I only had a week and I wanted to get out and about with the kids as much as possible.
We went off to the duck ponds for a wander around – there was still a little bit of snow around and the lakes were still frozen several cm thick – probably more in the middle

So, we’ve been having a great time here – it’s been a relatively quiet one this time as it’s been freezing cold, most cool places are actually closed for the winter and we’re all too busy kicking back.
We did go swimming which was cool. No, litterally, it was freezing. The poor boy (who has the physical appearance of the terminally malnourished) went blue and his teeth were chattering uncontrollably.
He did try to swim, but the belly ache he had when he got out indicated that he was actually trying to drink the pool level low enough so he could stand. Read More
