Summer in England 2016 – part 6 – Riverhill Gardens
Posted on October 3, 2016
Gone past this place more than a thousand times and never even been curious to go in, but as we’ve done pretty every attraction within 50 miles, I was looking for something new.
I saw it advertised on one of those ‘100 things to do in Kent’ websites and it looked interesting enough for a day out. The kids took a look at the website and quickly agreed, especially with the promise of lunch out.

Summer in England – part 5

Day of simple pleasures.
Can’t always go out and do huge adventures and long days out – sometimes just staying local and doing simple stuff is needed.
Last year we took a boat out and rowed down the river, this year, we played mini golf! Read More
Summer in England 2016 – part 4 – beachtime!
Posted on September 25, 2016
We had a few days of variable weather but really wanted to go to the beach with the entire family. My sisters have turned into our parents and always insist on getting places super early in order to get a good spot good parking etc.
I begrudgingly accept there is logic in it, but at 7am as we set off for Botany Bay near Margate, I was less convinced! Read More
Summer in England 2016 – part 3 – family
Posted on September 21, 2016
My trip over top the UK is really about one thing. Family.
Centered around my kids, of course, but also seeing my parents and my sisters and their kids.
Feels good to get together and I’m glad we usually get lots of time together. Read More
Summer in England 2016 – part 2 – Hever Castle
Posted on September 17, 2016
We’d been to Hever before, but it was over 6 years ago (see the link at the bottom of the post) and the kids couldn’t remember going.
They both wanted to go and play in the maze and the day was looking sunny and it seemed like a good idea!
Summer in England 2016 – part 1

Because of the injuries I picked up in the motorbike accident in November last year, I was unable to get back to England in the spring, so it had been a year since I saw the kids. I was really looking forward to this trip.
Having had bad experiences with Malaysia Airlines the last 2 times I flew with them, I paid a bit extra and booked with Singapore. Malaysia Airlines are struggling since they lost those 2 planes and it shows. Singapore Airlines never seem to have an issue with their schedules and thats what counts for me, sorry Malaysia Airlines!
Long exposures

Kwinana jetty has long been a favorite haunt for local photographers
- It got bashed up by a storm a few years back and has been decaying ever since, which makes it interesting
- It faces pretty much due west, so the sunset is always directly at the end of the jetty
- As it decayed, it left leading lines to the sunset which are great subject matter
So, it’s perfect for some long exposure goodness.
And no, I don’t mean the brown coat flashing variety.

Wow – I’ve been really slack on here. To be honest, I almost forgot about blogging – then you get into a bad habit of not making time for blogging and before you know it, months have passed and no updates . Or in my case, 6 months.
Oops.
Life has been a bit rinse repeat of late – working hard, still recovering from my leg injury so off the bike and largely confined to the local area. Not even a chance to go back to England as usual this time due to complications with my leg.
However, I’ve not been a total hermit – heres a sample of what I have been upto.. Read More
Trip to Penguin Island
Posted on January 23, 2016
We’re pretty lucky here in the Southern Hemisphere. Perth is far away from the world and very beautiful.
The downside is that we have all kinds of wildlife that is out to get us here, but we also have tiny fairy penguins. And they live on Penguin Island, only a few hundred metres off the coast near Rockingham, conveniently, only a short drive from my place. Read More
Pens and paper
Posted on December 26, 2015
My lovely wife was kind enough to indulge one of my obsessions and buy me a new pen and some ink for Christmas.
I’ve known for a little while that ink sometimes has interesting properties – shading and sheen – sometimes resulting in ink shining, glittering or even changing colour completely from some angles.
But for an ink to show off these properties, it needs pairing with a good paper. Read More
