Lomo #fail

Regular readers may recall that Jay and I bought a couple of Lomo cameras last year – I got a Diana Mini and Jay got a Supersampler. Well, as I mentioned, the Diana is shocking – the film hard to load, it gets jammed, the focussing ring is too small and the film strips on rewind. I have a film stuck in there at…

more of Melbourne

It’s just as well we went there last weekend – this weekend they’ve had torrential rain, golf-ball sized hailstones, wild wind and floods in the city! *eep* The news has been full of pictures of flooded streets and hail-drifts. Bloody hellfire!! Anyways, just to rub it in for people who are visiting at the moment (and Ellie who lives there), here are some tasty…

more film pics

Some more scans of the latest films that came back Perth from Kings Park – Holga + Kodak Portra 400 Perth – Murray St Mall – Holga + Kodak Portra 400 Sunset, Warnbro, WA – Holga wide angle pinhole + Portra 160 – this is really way underexposed, but I love the potential this camera has for sunsets. Busselton, Western Australia – Holga wide…

Open letter to the lady in the Landcruiser

Open Letter Tuesday* (actually, this happened on Monday, but I’m just slack) Dear lady in the Landcruiser parked next to me in the carpark at the kids school Thank you so much for leaving your engine running for 40 minutes whilst you waited for your daughter to come out of school. I understand that when its really stinking hot, sitting in a car is…

value-add

This is a photography related rant. There’s a lot of moaning on the internet about how these days, photographers are devalued and no-one is prepared to pay for good work any more. I think thats utter bollocks. The reality is that everyone and his mother has a camera capable of capturing a quality image suitable for online content.  The web and sites like flickr…

information overload

I want to keep this blog mostly personal stuff – of late its got a bit too global warmy, so I’m moving all the global warming debate stuff over to here http://legendaryluminousballs.wordpress.com please add this to your bookmarks, I will be updating regularly.

food photography

Jay and I were talking about this a while ago – we should really document our food preparation! Jay’s gone back to being Vegan again and I’m edging in the Veggie direction, although having been there and done that for 2 years, I know I’m never going to go that far again. With all this new found healthy food comes preparation. Lots and lots…

What’s that Skippy?

We had a stray kangaroo in the road today. First I saw of it was the dog going nuts at the window and the ranger pulling up outside. Followed by another one. And then the police and the wildlife officers The roo was in the road opposite my house, so I popped out to see what all the fuss was all about. Together, the…

redback season

I think it must have warmed up just enough for the spiders to come out. Found quite a few redbacks around the outside of the house today and the girls just found one in the bathroom. Only small ones, so they’re obviously just hatching and getting settled, but small ones inside the house is still not good. I’ll go get some barrier spray tomorrow…

big

Tell you something you knew already. Australia is a big place. Its pretty much the same width as the USA – 4000-ish km from east to west at the widest point and only a bit smaller in terms of total land area. However, only 21 million people live here vs 320 million or so in the US. Thats a lot of empty space then….
