Filmy goodness.

I swore I’d use my film cameras loads.  And I meant it.

The trouble is, well, I’m slack.

And I want instant results dammit!

Pathetic.

I love my Hasselblad 500 C/M, with its beautiful design and three dimensional waist level viewfinder.
I adore my Holgas and the crazy retro images they produce.
I’m always reaching for my little Olympus Trip 35 (yet not actually pressing the shutter, apparently) – it’s so simple and pocketable and lovely.

And yet, in the last year, I have shot only 4 rolls of film.  I shot more Polaroid than transparency.

Bah.  I’m an idiot.

I bought a Canon 9000F scanner which can scan 120 and 35mm negatives.  It produces lovely images, but the colour balancing is really difficult.  Each shot has been messed about with in Photoshop to try to get the colour balance correct and even now I’m not sure they’re right.   Might be time to invest in some different scanning software.

Anyway, issues aside, here are a few shots from the 2 rolls I’ve developed so far.  Taken with the fabulous Hasselblad.

Even with some of the colour balance being a bit ‘off’ – I really like the aesthetics of the images – there is something truly lovely about the way film renders an image.

Oh, a little shout out to a few a few people

First – a photographer from France who takes beautiful photos with a home made pinhole film camera.  http://pinholisticallyyours.wordpress.com/  Go check her out!

Next – Stephen – a musician who is planning to write music to your photos – check him out and participate!  http://stemolyneaux.wordpress.com/  He’s pretty darn good!

Lastly, my friend Kell – she’s doing a project ‘my place in time’ (I am going to do this too – watch this space) – check her out and do your own place in time! http://blackcurrantphotography.wordpress.com

And with that, I am going to take the X100 out and go take some pictures of another lovely crisp (ok, warm) Winters day here in Perth.

Hope you’re all having a good weekend!

  1. Thanks for the shout out! It’s been a couple of years since I shot film as well. Guess we both need a little challenge!
I like these houses. Are they in Subiaco?

    • I have another 2 rolls to develop since this – but still, not enough! Maybe ‘my place in time’ on film?
Yeah, Jay and I went to Subi for some reason or other and ended up walking down Hammersley Road and round about – was very nice round there.

    • Hi Claire 🙂 A lot of the older houses around Perth are like that (sadly not mine – my whole suburb was just bushland 25 years ago..) – they’re very beautiful with their big wide verandas and tin rooves.
