We’d been to Hever before, but it was over 6 years ago (see the link at the bottom of the post) and the kids couldn’t remember going.
They both wanted to go and play in the maze and the day was looking sunny and it seemed like a good idea!
So for those that don’t know – Hever Castle was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, doomed six fingered wife number 2 of Henry the 8th.
After he had her executed, he took possession of Hever Castle and gave it to his next wife, Anne of Cleves – thus completing the total screwing of the Boleyns (having already bedded both sisters and removing a title from her brother after her execution).
Anyway – was a beautiful day – so we went in for an explore – first in the gorgeous gardens and lake, the long walk ways and pergolas.
The castle itself is beautiful – now privately owned, it is well restored and a really great place for a visit.
We went through the maze a load of times – there are a few ways you can get to the middle – the kids had a few goes at racing each other!
Walking around the lake.
We were halfway around the lake (which is a fair walk – allow at least an hour) when the rain started. Luckily it was still really warm and we didn’t really mind.
By the time we got up to the Castle again it was belting down, so we went inside for the audio guided tour (well worth doing this and paying the few pounds for the audio thingo).
The kids enjoyed it, especially as they are learning about the Tudors at school.
Great day out even though we had to run for it in the rain!

Thank you 🙂 It’s an incredible place – if you’re ever in that part of the world, it’s highly recommended. Getting my kids to stay still is the challenge – they’re forever jumping off stuff!
