Snippets from the weekend

Greetings, fellow humans – hope things are well with you all!

So, what’s been happening in sunny Perth?   Actually, not so much in the way of sun – we’ve had a ton of rain lately, which timed itself perfectly with some closures of the train line in the city.  Guess who was on the bike like a drowned rat for most of the time?

This weekend, however, the sun came out and it was lovely and warm.  T-shirt weather in winter – dear Northern hemisphere dwellers, don’t get too jealous :p    So not to waste the opportunity, Jay and I headed out to Fremantle to wander about, buy a few things and get some tasty lunch.

We parked up on the top floor of the car park in the warm sunshine.

First up – lunch – its always difficult finding decent food for a vegan diet, but Jus Burgers on the corner of Fremantle Markets do some vegan burgers, so we went straight there…

The selection is pretty good for carnivores – lovely burger with blue cheese for me and tempeh burger with sweet chilli sauce for Jay

We had a little wander around the market afterwards – it’s not changed a great deal, except some of the wasted space in the middle has a lot more food stalls than before.  Sadly, they were all meat related and Jay wasn’t too impressed with the smell, so we ducked into a vintage store for a look around.

After a little shopping we went in search of a coffee – but our timing was terrible and everywhere was packed, but we found a spot in San Churros (avoiding temptation to scoff too much chocolate) and had some rather lovely coffee.

So all in all, it was a rather nice Saturday – bellies full, we drove home and just chilled out for the rest of the day, attending to chores and odd jobs around the house and in the garden.

Today was very warm, so I decided to go for a ride on my mountain bike.  I’m so flabby and unfit at the moment and I’ve been hanging out to get back on my bike.  Sadly an really stubborn cold meant I’ve been unable to get going, especially in the cold winter air.  No more excuses though!

I couldn’t be bothered changing into any biking gear, so set off in jeans and an tshirt and my Docs.  It’s pretty flat here, being on the coast, so I didn’t really care – I thought I’d just pootle for a bit and see how long my legs held up for.  I also slung the camera over my shoulder – well, why pass up an opportunity!

So there you go.  It was a gorgeous ride and I managed 14km which isn’t too bad given I’m at fitness level 0.  I’ll have to get out on the bike when I get home from work – I have a powerful front light now, which means darkness is no barrier!!

I’m now sitting with a glass of wine and a fearful eye on the cricket – Australia are dominating the 3rd test in the Ashes series, but I think the match will end up as a draw, which is good for England, but not for Australia, who need to win all 3 remaining tests to regain the ashes

Hope you all had a good weekend – looking forward to reading some blogs later!

Next up – back to England.  Yup, its almost time for me to head back to the motherland and see my children!

  1. It’s so delightful to sit here in Blighty and see that Perth’s winter skies are bluer and more cloudless than our summer skies currently are. 😉

    • hehe! glad to be of assistance! This mornings skies were somewhat different – heavily overcast and rain (if that makes you feel any better :p) I’m back in Blighty next weekend, so hopefully bringing the sunshine with me..

    • I was gutted – 14km is so weak! I used to do 70+km off road 3x a week. now I cant do a beach cycle path through the dunes without feeling like I might die. Baby steps to get it all back I guess. Its pouring with rain today – guess we were just lucky at the weekend!
