So, all you northern hemisphere dwellers with your snow and your wrap up warm Christmas cheer where mulled wine makes perfect sense don’t know how good you have it!
As I said before, it doesn’t feel like Christmas down here in Perth – it’s almost 40C today with clear skies (and a strong sea breeze, thank god) – everyone’s heading to the beach or barbecuing on the many foreshore picnic areas. How is that Christmas? LOL!
It is, however, perfect weather to have a little ride about and I think I might have to make this a Boxing Day tradition.
I just pootled about, nice and slow as a) it was really hot and I wasn’t wearing my jacket and b) people are notoriously distracted around this time of the year and I didn’t want to end up a statistic. You’ve all seen pictures from the coast here before, but here are some more :p
Just to show you all the terrible Christmas hardship we have to endure.
First up – Warnbro Beach, just down the road from my house.
The little Ninja, perfect to pootle about on!
I headed off around the beach road to Point Peron – the wind was getting up at this point – I did take some video, but it’s all wind noise and nothing else! It was beautifully warm though, so I just sat for a while and took in the view.
In the middle of Point Peron, there’s an old gun emplacement/lookout thing on a big hill that I’ve taken pictures of before, so I wandered over and climbed up the steep steps. There was a girl there doing her workout, running up and down like a mad thing, but I was in heavy jeans and Doc Martens, so no running up in this heat!
Looking out over Rockingham towards the CBH grain terminal and Kwinana
The view back towards Shoalwater with Tern Island and Penguin Island on the right
Point Peron is made from limestone and connected to the shore by a sandy spit – Penguin Island is similar, but the spit is still under the water except at extreme low tide. It’s hard to tell that Point Peron was once an island until you get up to the gun emplacement and look out – then you can sort of see how it is now joined up
Selfie. Wind making a mockery of my rock and roll quiff.
I rode round to the grain terminal to find the usually deserted carpark full of horse boxes – riding along the beach is allowed down there as it’s not used by families (for obvious reasons) so it’s perfectly safe. The water is also crystal clear and shallow, which is perfect.
And that was that. Time to head back and be with my family and tackle some of the Christmas Dinner leftovers for lunch – *nom nom*
Happy Boxing Day folks!
What are you doing today – sales, work, family or relaxing?
i like how you ended this post with horses on the beach it was like a full christmas dinner complete with a fancy desert

haha! Thanks Jeffrey! Don’t think those horses would taste as good as a trifle or cake though!

Merry Christmas David (and Sophy et al) – plenty of work over here at the moment but how are you with spiders? 😉 It is nice here, bit too warm in the summer if I’m honest (spring and autumn are pretty much perfect), especially in the city – down here by the beach it’s almost 10C cooler on the really stifling days which makes things a bit more bearable. This week – http://www.bom.gov.au/wa/forecasts/perth.shtml *ugh*
Yeah, pretty happy, just wish I could see the kids more often, need a teleport or a lottery win..
