Boxing Day goodness

So, all you northern hemisphere dwellers with your snow and your wrap up warm Christmas cheer where mulled wine makes perfect sense don’t know how good you have it!

As I said before, it doesn’t feel like Christmas down here in Perth – it’s almost 40C today with clear skies (and a strong sea breeze, thank god) – everyone’s heading to the beach or barbecuing on the many foreshore picnic areas.  How is that Christmas?  LOL!

It is, however, perfect weather to have a little ride about and I think I might have to make this a Boxing Day tradition.

I just pootled about, nice and slow as a) it was really hot and I wasn’t wearing my jacket and b) people are notoriously distracted around this time of the year and I didn’t want to end up a statistic.  You’ve all seen pictures from the coast here before, but here are some more :p

Just to show you all the terrible Christmas hardship we have to endure.

First up – Warnbro Beach, just down the road from my house.

I headed off around the beach road to Point Peron – the wind was getting up at this point – I did take some video, but it’s all wind noise and nothing else!  It was beautifully warm though, so I just sat for a while and took in the view.

In the middle of Point Peron, there’s an old gun emplacement/lookout thing on a big hill that I’ve taken pictures of before, so I wandered over and climbed up the steep steps.  There was a girl there doing her workout, running up and down like a mad thing, but I was in heavy jeans and Doc Martens, so no running up in this heat!

Point Peron is made from limestone and connected to the shore by a sandy spit – Penguin Island is similar, but the spit is still under the water except at extreme low tide.  It’s hard to tell that Point Peron was once an island until you get up to the gun emplacement and look out – then you can sort of see how it is now joined up

I rode round to the grain terminal to find the usually deserted carpark full of horse boxes – riding along the beach is allowed down there as it’s not used by families (for obvious reasons) so it’s perfectly safe.  The water is also crystal clear and shallow, which is perfect.

And that was that. Time to head back and be with my family and tackle some of the Christmas Dinner leftovers for lunch – *nom nom*
